What is a carryover pool?

What is a carryover pool? Many tracks offer a Pick 6 bet, which challenges the bettor to pick the winners of six races on the racecard. Because of the difficulty of successfully choosing six straight winners, plus the large number of betting interests, it is common for there to be no winning wager on all six races. When this happens, the six-winner portion of the pool carries over to the following program, and continues to carry over until it is won. This is called the "carryover pool," and it can grow to large sums.
